‘The Strain' star Richard Sammel talks possible season 3 storyline
“The Strain,” which is on its fifth running episode for its second season, has recently been confirmed for a Season 3. While details to the new season have yet to be revealed, one of the show’s main actors Richard Sammel, who plays the German Eichhorst, teases what could be a possible storyline for Season 3.
Sammel talked about portraying Eichhorst in “The Strain” during an interview with Collider . When quizzed on the potential of the humans winning the fight against the vampires by the end of Season 2, Richard teases the possibility of the vampires taking further advantage in Season 3.
“There are reasons for humans to be more hopeful because they’ve found solutions that might help with this plague. But also, the vampires continue making progress on their plans to overtake humanity,” he said.
The actor likewise said the story becomes more complex as the season progresses. Season 2 of “The Strain” will likely still not show the end to the vampires’ reign over humanity.
“It gets closer and closer, until there will be some sort of explosion in Season 3 or 4,” Sammel added.
Richard plays the role of Eichhorst, a loyal ally to the vampire Master, whom he has served for 70 years. The character has never been fully introduced in Season 1 of “The Strain” and even in Season 2. Viewers were first introduced to the character through his Nazi backstory. All throughout the two seasons, he has always been shown as this smart and brutal vampire who thirsts for the power to rule the world. But a thorough introduction into the character’s story has never been revealed and Sammel says that’s what he wants further explored.
The actor confirmed “The Strain” will ”go back a little further,” into his character’s story, probably featuring some flashback scenes to Eichhorst’s life before he became a vampire. However, Sammel didn’t go into details whether these scenes will be in Season 3 or the remaining episodes in Season 2.
“The Strain” is expected to run for three to five more seasons, according to a statement given by one of the show’s executive producers Carlton Cuse. TV Line reports that FX greenlighting the show for a Season 3 is to be expected, considering that it has a 1.8 demo rating and it’s averaging 3.1 million weekly viewers.
