'Stranger Things' season 2 spoilers: Creators discuss Brenner's fate; 'justice' for Barb
Netflix's 'Stranger Things' is expected to return in 2017
“Stranger Things” has very quickly become a worldwide hit since its release in the summer on Netflix. However, while successful, there have been no confirmations yet if the show would be renewed for another season. Given its immediate rise to popularity, another season would be very likely and has already been somewhat hinted by creators Matt and Ross Differ in an interview.
Deadline reports that the 1983-set Science fiction series has earned an enormous amount of positive reviews, as well as memes inspired by geek references to Dungeons and Dragons and some choices in music. However, there could be no other element of the show that has been the subject of more memes than Barb, a character played by Shannon Purser.
Her aura really makes her look like she is from the 80s. She only appeared alive on two episodes and as a half devoured corpse on the penultimate episode. Despite her limited exposure, she has still become a fan favourite where viewers have been noting her getup and her bubbly disposition.
Her untimely demise at the hands of a monster from another dimension has been frustrating for viewers who were looking forward to see more of the character. Some are asking for at least a full spotlight feature that will resolve her story. Sadly, the Duffer Brothers have revealed in an interview that she is unlikely to return to the show if ever “Stranger Things” does get a second season.
Matt Duffer, however, said that “Barb will not be forgotten. We will make sure there is some justice for Barb” while hinting at a possibility that her story can have the well deserved resolution from the first season.
The situation appears a little different for Dr. Brenner, though. Screenrant notes that while he may have met his monster, viewers were not treated to his comeuppance onscreen. Matt explains that if they were going to kill Dr. Brenner it would be “as an audience member watching the show, if that was his death, that would be very unsatisfying to me. When the monster jumps on him and we cut away.” He adds that the character deserves more than just that as an ending and confirms that there indeed is a possibility of seeing Dr. Brenner again on the show.
