‘Stranger Things’ Season 2 spoilers: Evil scientists Brenner may die another day; Barb won't be forgotten
Netflix’s “Stranger Things” Season 2 release date has not been confirmed yet. However, creators of the 80s inspired TV show, Matt and Ross Duffer, recently revealed some interesting details about the fate of two characters, Dr. Martin Brenner (Matthew Modine) and beloved Barb (Shannon Purser). They threw some light on the two characters whose fates seemed indefinite at the end of “Stranger Things” Season 1.
[Spoiler Alert] Barb, Nancy Wheeler’s (Natalie Dyer) bestie, was last seen looking pretty much dead in the Upside Down. Unfortunately, the showrunners too can’t see the character returning. However, she won’t be forgotten, promised Matt. There will be justice for Barb.
“I can’t see it happening. But Barb will not be forgotten. We’ll make sure there’s some justice for Barb. People get very frustrated, understandably, that the town doesn’t seem to be really dealing with Barb. That stuff is all happening. We’re just not spending any screen time on it,” Matt told IGN.
He added that as “Stranger Things” Season 1 events happened over the course of only six or seven days, much of the effort went in solving the mystery of Will Byers’ (Noah Schnapp) disappearance and establishing the back-story of “Eleven” or Jane Ives (Millie Bobby Brown). Hence, if and when “Stranger Things” Season 2 returns, it will explore the repercussions of everything that happened in Season 1.
However, Dr. Martin Brenner, the mad/evil scientists, may make a comeback as the showrunners feel it would be very unsatisfying if the character met his end with a jump cut. In “Stranger Things” Season 1 finale, the monster jumped on Brenner and the scene was cut away. Matt believes Brenner deserves much more than that.
The parallel dimension, called Upside Down, would be the prime focus for “Stranger Things” Season 2. Ross told Variety in July that even Will is not totally free from the Upside Down.
“The idea is he’s escaped this nightmare place, but has he really? That’s a place we wanted to go and potentially explore in season two. What effect does living in there for a week have on him? And what has been done to him? It’s not good, obviously,” he said.
