Student Imitates Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, Rihanna And More; Exposes Celebrities' 'Impossible' Beauty Standards
A college student buys curtains and pins to make clothes and accessories to imitate Beyonce and Rihanna, among other celebrity icons on Instagram. His posts often go viral, but the real reason that the Canadian student wants to do this is that he wants to expose the photoshop extremes of celebrity pictures.
Buzzfeed introduced Mina Gerges, a Canadian college student who loves imitating celebrity snaps and posting them on his Instagram account to poke fun at the celebrities. He may be low in budget, but his snaps of Kim Kardashian, Nicki Minaj and lately Beyonce and Rihanna as well all have become viral sensations. When he is not too busy with schoolwork and exams, the 20-year old is said to be busy with his glamorous recreations. "I make everything myself," Gerges told BuzzFeed. "I purchase curtains and hold them with pins, and everything else I put on them I stick with glue."
The Canadian also said that his imitations of Queen Bey's style, look and pose at the Grammy's as well as Rihanna's most recent red carpet look serves a more noble purpose than just wanting to be a viral star. The said "Kardashian-obsessed third year media student" admits that his posts are "for people to see overexposed celebrities in a new light, highlighting the photoshop extremes of some celeb pictures," which usually end up promoting unrealistic beauty standards and negative body image to the fans. So far, aside from Kim Kardashian, Nicki Minaj, Beyonce and Rihanna, he had also already imitated Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Ariana Grande, Kanye West, Lady Gaga and Iggy Azalea. He even copied Kylie Jenner's puffy lips! His Instagram account is likely to churn out more celebrity imitations.
He is not alone on his goal, though. Some of the celebrities that he is imitating made it also their personal goal to "revolutionise beauty standards." Demi Lovato, for one, praised Kim Kardashian and Beyonce for changing what it means to be beautiful. The actress claimed to Access Hollywood that celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and Beyonce showed that beauty can be defined in several ways and that it is okay to be different. Kim Kardashian is said to flaunt her curves confidently, making Demi inspired that sexy does not have to mean "bony." She credited Beyonce and Kim for making people confident in their skin.
