“Suits” RECAP: Season 3 Episode 9 “Bad Faith”: All Efforts come to a Naught
The ninth episode of "Suits" Season 3, "Bad Faith," is about aiming to end-up stronger on the revenue front to get a better dissolution of the merger settlement. It is about negotiations and juggling between 'good faith and 'bad faith' to clinch a settlement, which tips the scale in one law firm's favour.
The opening scenes of "Suits" Season 3 Episode 9, "Bad Faith," are personal snap-shots and that have nothing to do with the murky law business. Mike (Patrick J Adams) is at Rachel's (Meghan Markle) place and is unable to get away, without a topless hug from Rachel. He does not mind at all despite complaining that Rachel does not want him to go to work. Harvey is standing in front of Donna's (Sarah Rafferty) house, all ready to take her out for breakfast and an excursion to buy handbags for himself and also for Donna (which we later find out in the episode). Both Harvey and Donna had a rough time and shopping for handbags is their idea of celebration.
Louis (Rick Hoffman) approaches Jessica (Gina Torres) and asks her to hand over to him, the dissolution settlement negotiations. He tells Jessica, "I want hand in the negotiations" as he is "cool as cucumber" and he can negotiate more efficiently and reasonably because he is not angry like Jessica and Harvey. Harvey objects to that and calls it a joke. An offended Louis leaves Jessica's office, saying that he is not a joke. However, Jessica convinces Harvey that Louis has a point and tells him to treat Louis, differently as Harvey's name is now on the wall. She asks Harvey to treat Louis, with respect. Harvey is ready to give respect but is not keen on getting sidelined. Jessica tells him, "I'm going to put him in the quarterback and snap the ball to you."
Harvey goes to meet client Samson, while Louis goes to negotiate the dissolution settlement. Louis is expected to act fair and in good faith, while Harvey has to steal the clients, acting in bad faith. Jessica tells Louis that they would give the impression that they are moving on but in fact, "they are going after their client." Louis face beams thinking that it is "Litt-tastic" as Jessica is letting him in one of Harvey and Jessica's missions.
Samson is a huge client that still wants to keep the crown and whoever has the higher revenue has the advantage. Louis and Katherine (....) go for the negotiation and Louis tells Katherine to make sure that his "inner gladiator" does not rise and overrule his "outer negotiator." He believes that he has an advantage because he does not have personal animosity to the other side. But, he spoke too soon.
Nigel (Adam Godley) is waiting for him in the conference room. Nigel calls Katherine "tinkerbell" and throws a stack of unopened, unread letters on the table. He tells Louis that he did not read a word to his cat. Also Nigel tears-off a portrait of Louis that the latter had sent to be shown to Nigel's cat. The blocking of his attempt to reach out to the cat infuriates Louis, and he asks Katherine to get out of the room and tells Nigel that they are going to war and everything is on the table, including the client. Louis act puts a stop to Harvey's stealing of client attempt.
Harvey meets Scottie in front of Samson's office. Harvey tells her that he is going to beat her, like always. Scottie tells him that she let him win because she thought from a different mindset and it is not going to happen, again. Scottie tells Harvey that she is going to fight tooth and nail. However, they both don't need to meet the client because of Louis signing the negotiation settlement and as part of that client list was also locked. Harvey is furious at Louis and tells him off.
Louis, however, is the one who finally give Pearson-Specter a revenue advantage over Darby's firm - tip the scale in Jessica and Harvey's favour -- when he comes-up with documents against Tony Giannopoulos. Harvey tells him, "It has always been when I need some from you, and I don't need anything from you because you just gave it to me. So let me say it to you. I respect you. You're an excellent attorney, valuable member of the firm." Louis chokes-up with emotions and he tells Harvey, "It means so much when you say all that." Harvey takes Louis with him to cut the deal, with Giannopoulos.
Louis comes into the picture because of Hessington Oil firing Pearson-Specter, which Harvey thinks is the doing of Scottie. However, it is Ava Hessington (Michelle Fairley) who fired Harvey's firm. They have now landed in a much hotter soup as Ava is suing them for malpractice.
Mike asks Rachel to move in with him. He had kept his grandmother's house as he did not have the heart to rent it or sell it. Rachel takes time to think over it. But, moving in together may have to be put on a hold as she has got through Stanford.
