Suits Season 3, Episode 9 Review: Donna Shows Harvey and Mike are Terrible SOs; Fans 'Litt Up' for Fall Finale [PHOTOS]
Suits Season 3, Episode 9 ("Bad Faith") takes a deeper look into the characters of the USA series. Donna Paulsen (Sarah Rafferty) gets busy giving Mike Ross (Patrick J Adams) and Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) a walkthrough in relationships. Meanwhile, Jessica Pearson (Gina Torres) lets Louis Litt (Rick Hoffman) participate in her "divorce" settlement.
"Bad faith" in the legal world implies dirty tricks to maximise one party's loot post-battle. Louis, Harvey and Jessica act in bad faith to metaphorically slap Edward Darby (Conleth Hill) in the face. For most of Suits Season 3, Louis Litt has been off the Hessington case. But when Jessica lets him again - and Harvey gets why -- viewers saw a happy Litt, which is always a welcome break.
"Game of Thrones" still exists in the Suits Season 3 universe, as Ava Hessington (Michelle Fairley) makes an unanticipated move. But Darby is now unable to practice law in New York! Just when viewers thought "Endgame" has finally closed the Hessington case to rest, Ava comes back with an explosive decision. Things are obviously in motion for the fall finale. (Check out the slideshow to see what Suits fans are posting on Tumblr.)
Katrina Bennett (Amanda Schull) telling Nigel Nesbitt (Adam Godley) he's terrified of her lawyering skills shows a lot of balls. This character is being primed for bigger story arcs - perhaps in the fall finale, or the second half of Suits Season 3. (Beware, Mike Ross.)
Game of Thrones stars Michelle Fairley and Conleth Hill are "no-shows." But The Wire's Wendell Pierce comes in to give "Pearson Specter" a difficult time as Robert Zane. Not for long, though. Suits Season 3 is about Mike's opportunities to shine. So Mike Ross kicked his girlfriend's dad's butt. Mr Zane was not a sour loser, but Rachel Zane (Meghan Markle) is certainly not impressed.
Rectify's Abigail Spencer is also present as Dana 'Scottie' Scott. She reminds Harvey Specter that his bloated ego and lack of ability to trust will possibly ruin him one day. Meanwhile, Max Beesley is not around as Stephen Huntley, but he will show up next week for Suits Season 3, Episode 10.
If Harvey and Mike had listened to Donna (or sought her advice before doing something terrible), the troubles in the upcoming Suits Season 3 fall finale would have been mitigated. As much as Harvey and Mike are brilliant as lawyers, they are lousy as significant others. They'd be making a bigger mess of their lives if not for Donna! (That said, Gabriel Macht is a genius for recommending the Donna role to Sarah Rafferty!)
Suits Season 3, Episode 9 was written by Ethan Drogin and directed by Christopher Misiano. Lines are snappy but loaded. Portrayals are compelling, as usual. The episode development is consistent to the characters established in the show. Pacing is smooth, superb, and a delight for viewers. This is one of the Top 3 best episodes of the season - so far. Fans are definitely all "Litt up" for the show's mid-season finale.
