'Sunrise' Presenter Melissa Doyle Gets to Anchor Seven’s 4-PM News Bulletin; Rebecca Madden Reportedly Upset After Getting Sidelined
The sun is still on Melissa Doyle’s side as she gets the anchor seat for Channel Seven’s afternoon news programme. Joining her on the news bulletin is Matt White and Rebecca Madden gets bumped off in the process.
After Doyle’s controversial exit from Sunrise in June 2013, the TV news personality has found a new home in Channel Seven's afternoon programme. The Sydney Morning Herald is reporting that Rebecca Madden was reportedly upset with the latest news development.
"Rebecca's upset at being elbowed out," a senior source from Seven was quoted as telling Fairfax Media, " adding that the discontent resulted from Madden’s good ratings performance, “especially since her ratings are closer to Channel Nine's than pretty much every other Channel Seven news or current affairs show.”
The senior executive explained how Doyle got the tough job.
"The network gave Mel this gig to placate her after it pushed her out of Sunrise. They were planning to give her a show on 7Two only and she put her foot down and said, 'No, I'm going to stay on the main channel'," the unnamed source added.
Months after her exit from Sunrise, Doyle still insists that she resigned from the high-profile anchorman position and not forced to resign as claimed by Seven insiders. Sources emphasised that Seven wanted a clean start for the breakfast programme and it began by firing its home-grown face of the network. Doyle was never on the same page with the network officials and is reportedly coming out with a farewell announcement for the Sunrise followers.
Taking to her Facebook account, Melissa said: "I'm really looking forward to this week and the chance to say goodbye to my work mates and of course all our lovely viewers. So forgive us if it all seems like #thelongfarewell. I'm sure you'll all be sick of me by Friday and happy to see me go! Then its over to my new role...but you'll have to wait to hear all about that! X Mel"
The former Sunrise presenter is reportedly set to begin with her new programme on Aug 12 for the 4 pm news edition. Sources said that the news programme will run for 90 minutes.
