“Supergirl” developments for CBS continues, as the Supergirl actress of the 1980s film and the Superman actor of the 1990s television, come on board. Superhero fans are now guessing the roles of Helen Slater and Dean Cain in the upcoming series.

The roles that Helen Slater and Dean Cain will play have not been revealed in spoiler reports. On the social media site Twitter, users are discussing some possible details.

“One thing we know for sure: Helen Slater is NOT playing Kara's Kryptonian mother, Alura, as @LauraBenanti has been cast in that role,” user @KryptonSite tweeted.

Earlier, it was reported that Laura Benanti of “Nashville” will play Supergirl’s birth mother, Alura Zor-El. Chyler Leigh of “Grey’s Anatomy” is also in the series as Kara’s sister, who works in a secret government agency.

Helen Slater was Supergirl herself in the 1984 movie of the same title by TriStar Pictures. Dean Cain played Clark Kent aka Superman in ABC’s “Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.”

DC Comics’ Kara Zor-El, who is known as Superman's cousin, is the central character in “Supergirl.” Playing the titular role is “Glee” alum Melissa Benoist, who is also part of the 2014 film “Whiplash.”

Also joining the “Supergirl” cast is Calista Flockhart of “Ally McBeal.” Calista will play Cat Grant, Kara’s boss.

CBS landed “Supergirl” in September 2014. Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler of ABC’s “No Ordinary Family” are the show bosses. Berlanti is also currently running two other DC Comics adaptations: “Arrow” and “The Flash” on The CW.

Helen Slater on Twitter thanked CBS, Warner Brothers, the “Supergirl” showrunners and casting director (David Rappaport) for her new television role. Dean Cain has yet to post a Supergirl-related shout-out.

The launch of “Supergirl” in television means CBS is joining FOX, ABC, NBC and The CW in the superhero production competition. FOX has “Gotham,” while NBC has “Hellblazer” and “Constantine.” ABC has “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” and “Agent Carter.”

“Supergirl” is a treat to superhero and DC Comics fans from Warner Bros. TV and studio-based Berlanti Productions.
