‘Supernatural’ S11E11 spoilers: Sam and Dean vanquish a banshee; Lucifer continues charade as Castiel [VIDEO]
“Supernatural” kept the identity of Castiel (Misha Collins) from Sam and Dean Winchester (Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles) for one more episode on Wednesday. “Into the Mystic” was what viewers call a filler episode but still left morsels of crucial clues for the upcoming season finale. Unfortunately, it did not reveal anything about Crowley’s (Mark A. Sheppard) fate.
Spoilers ahead for ‘Supernatural’ season 11, episode 11 ‘Into the Mystic’
When a malevolent banshee attacked a couple with an infant child some 30 years ago, the baby was left alone and deaf from the banshee’s piercing screams. She was eventually rescued by a hunter who raised her to become a hunter as well. The baby’s mother was a daughter of a Men of Letters member, which explained why the woman was able to banish the creature before it got to her daughter.
Back in the present time, Sam and Dean investigated a mysterious death in a retirement home, where a resident was found dead in a similar manner as the baby’s parents. The brothers first thought a vindictive ghost was the culprit, but learnt that it was a banshee when Mildred, another resident, witnessed the banshee’s second killing.
Eileen, the baby in the first scene who is now a grown woman, posed as a housecleaner in the retirement home to vanquish her parents’ killer. When her identity was exposed to the Winchesters, she teamed up with them. With Mildred’s permission, Sam, Dean and Eileen planned to use Mildred as bait since they figured that the banshee would target her next.
But it wasn’t Mildred who was pursued by the banshee; it was Dean, which meant Dean was the vulnerable one. With Dean hitting his own head on the wall, and Sam temporarily rendered immobile, it was Eileen and Mildred who were able to kill the supernatural creature in the end.
Eileen, who was geared up all her life to exact revenge for her parents, found herself with nothing to do after killing the banshee. She told Sam she would just continue hunting.
Lucifer as Castiel
Lucifer his charade as Castiel, even going to the bunker and duping Dean. Dean confided to his angel friend that he couldn’t kill Amara (Emily Swallow) because he was inexplicably attracted to her. He asked Castiel not to tell anyone about his secret, though, until he figures out what he would do. When Castiel left later, Dean told Sam something was off with Castiel, which Sam dismissed as Castiel being typically eccentric.
Sam, on the other hand, had to confess to Dean how he felt after Lucifer messed with his head. Lucifer made him realise he had been so guilty over not coming to Dean’s rescue when Dean was trapped in the purgatory a few years back.
“I should have looked for you. When you were in purgatory, I should have turned over every stone but I didn’t. I stopped. And I’ve never forgiven myself for it,” Sam admitted to his older brother, who assured him that he has forgiven him a long time ago.
The exchange allowed Sam to finally obtain some measure of peace, though he still wondered why the banshee preyed on Dean when the creature only goes after the vulnerable. Dean claimed it was a sort of self-defence since the banshee knew Dean was there to vanquish him.
Later, Dean couldn’t sleep probably from thinking about his connection with Amara.
