“Supernatural” Valentine’s Day special titled “Love Hurts” (season 11, episode 13) deals with magic STD. In the latest episode, Sam and Dean Winchester (Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles) battled a Qareen, which literally took the heart of its victims by posing as their “deepest, darkest desire.”

Spoilers ahead for ‘Love Hurts’

When a babysitter’s heart was literally ripped out from her body while the couple who employed her were out on a Valentine’s Day dinner, the Winchester brothers suspected it’s more than just a case of a passionate rage. The husband admitted that he was having an affair with the babysitter, but he couldn’t believe his eyes when he reviewed the nanny cam hidden in the living room. It turned out it was him, or at least someone posing as him, who killed the college student.

And when the already dead babysitter killed the husband in the same manner the next day, Sam and Dean thought they were dealing with a shapeshifter. They confronted the wife, Melissa, who revealed she knew about her husband and the babysitter’s affair but hoped that her husband would come back to her.

The now-dead husband then attacked the wife, who was able to escape and run to the Winchesters for help. She admitted that she asked for help from her hairdresser, who called herself a white witch. The hairdresser, Sonya, gave her a spell to recite. Sam learnt that the spell was actually a curse that was transferrable by kiss and had worked its way back to whoever casted it, which was the wife. The dead husband burst into the Winchesters’ location, intending to rip the wife’s heart out. Dean kissed Melissa, though, so the curse would be transferred to him.

In Sonya’s hair shop, Dean was confronted by Amara, who was really the Qareen taking her form. Since she wasn’t really Amara, Dean was able to resist the Qareen. Meanwhile upstairs in the same shop, Sam found the Qareen’s heart but was rendered immobile by Sonya. The hairdresser divulged that the curse not only punished cheaters, but the foolish women who loved them despite everything. In her own words, she was just “weeding out the idiots,” referring to wives who wanted their philandering husbands back.

Melissa came just in time to stop Sonya from killing Sam, distracting her and therefore allowing Sam to kill Sonya. He then stabbed the Qareen’s heart, which killed the Qareen attacking Dean.

Later on, he admitted to Sam that the Qareen took Amara’s form because Amara was Dean’s “deepest, darkest desire.” He was surprised that Sam wasn’t even surprised a bit by his confession. Sam said he understood that Dean was up against God’s sister, and, as he was only human, Dean couldn’t resist the temptation. He also understood that Dean wanted him dead but couldn’t do that because he was helpless in his attraction.

“I’m screwed, man. We want to kill the darkness. We need to kill the darkness, and I don’t think I can,” Dean told Sam.

“I got it, Dean,” Sam promised him.

‘The Vessel’

Next week, Lucifer, in Castiel’s vessel’s body, will be back. In the teaser clip of the episode titled “The Vessel,” Lucifer/Castiel (Misha Collins) is seen taking over hell once more as he turns the former King of Hell, Crowley (Mark A. Sheppard), into a slave. Meanwhile, Dean will convince Lucifer/Castiel to send him back to the year 1944 to find a powerful weapon that can defeat Amara. While Dean is away, Lucifer will continue his charade as Castiel as he and Sam wait for Dean’s return.

“Supernatural” airs Mondays on Eleven in Australia.
