'Supernatural' Season 9 Episode 16 'Blade Runners' Recap/Spoilers: The Effect of the Mark of Cain on Dean Winchester
Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) deal with demon business again in "Supernatural" Season 9, Episode 16 titled "Blade Runners." The Winchester brothers are now determined to find the "First Blade" thinking that Crowley (Mark Sheppard) failed in retrieving the weapon that can kill their common target, Abaddon (Alaina Huffman).
Spoiler alert: This feature contains major spoilers on "Supernatural" Season 9, Episode 16 titled "Blade Runners." Dean Winchester is getting upset because he is having a hard time in contacting Crowley to find out what happened to his quest in acquiring the "First Blade" at the bottom of the deepest ocean in order to kill Abaddon. The King of Hell is busy in injecting himself with blood and weeping over a classic film while lying in bed.
Lola, the demon who has been looking after Crowley's interest on sex, pizza and human blood, has been double-crossing the King of Hell by giving away details for Abaddon. Sam and Dean decided to summon a demon at the crossroads to just gather basic information on Crowley and it was Snooki who appeared before them.
Lola returned to give Crowley more human blood but he confronted the demon about her betrayal and killed her in the end. Then, Crowley decided to contact Dean to tell him about being in a jam of sorts so the Winchesters immediately drove to Crowley's place.
Sam and Dean were upset that Crowley looks like a mess and he turned them down with the First Blade still out there. Crowley revealed that he is having a hard time with his addiction especially now that he just found out about Lola telling Abaddon everything that he has been doing.
Crowley is back at the "Men of Letters" bunker while helping Sam and Dean in figuring out how to beat Abaddon in getting the weapon and their investigation led them initially to the National Institute of Antiquities before meeting the collector and inactive member of the "Men of Letters" Cuthbert Sinclair who has the "First Blade."
After finding out that Dean has the Mark of Cain, Cuthbert wanted to add the elder Winchester to the supernatural collection of creatures and objects inside his invisible lair. However, the "First Blade" and the "Mark of Cain" in Dean's arm had an effect that took over him with rage obviously visible on his face so he decapitated the collector before further torturing Sam.
Abaddon and her minions are hot in trailing the location of the "First Blade" and since the demons could not find Cuthbert Sinclair's hidden place, they decided to just leave a message for Crowley by scratching the words on Dean's "Baby" Impala. Crowley, who is now sobered up, took the weapon from the Winchesters because he knows that his name is in Dean's list so he told them that he will hold on to the weapon first while they locate Abaddon before destroying her.
"Supernatural" Season 9 airs Tuesday nights at 9 pm ET/PT on the CW Network. The Winchester brothers will be back with Episode 17 titled "Mother's Little Helper" on March 25, 2014.
