‘Supernatural’ showrunner Jeremy Carver leaving show for ‘Frequency’
“Supernatural” showrunner Jeremy Carver is leaving the show to start a new series, according to a report. Executive producers Robert Singer and Andrew Dabb will take over in season 12.
TVLine reveals that Carver will step down at the conclusion of the show’s 11th season to focus on the new series, “Frequency.” From season 12, Singer and Dabb will succeed Carver as co-showrunners, which will be the first time the position is shared by two persons.
“Supernatural” was created in 2005 by Eric Kripke, who was also the showrunner until season 5. Sera Gamble then assumed the role for season 6 and 7 before she passed on the position to Carver, who started as a writer in season 3. Singer has been with the show since the first season as an exec producer, director and writer, while Dabb joined in season 4 as writer/story editor then co-executive producer.
The series – starring Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Misha Collin and Mark A. Sheppard – has two more episodes left before its season finale next week. Dabb wrote the script for the 23rd and final season 11 episode.
As for Carver’s “Frequency,” a reimagining of the 2000 sci-fi film of the same name, it will star Peyton List as a female police officer who discovers she is able to speak with her estranged father, who died a decade ago, via a ham radio. The CW has recently announced official pick-up for a series. The cast includes Riley Smith, Mekhi Phifer, Lenny Jacobson, Anthony Ruivivar, Devin Kelley and Daniel Bonjour.
