Superstar Beckham Braces For 'World’s Toughest Triathlon,' 2014 Ironman Championships
Retired professional soccer superstar David Beckham is all set preparing for the world's toughest triathlon. He is expected to compete with his friend Gordon Ramsay.
Ramsay is a Scottish chef and TV personality. When he was younger, he has played football for Warwickshire. Football is probably the common ground why Beckham and Ramsay became good friends. The two celebrities even partnered and opened up Union Street Café, a restaurant serving Italian cuisine, in the Southwark District of London.
Everything started when Beckham gave Ramsay some tips for the 2013 triathlon. "I, bloody, look like a piece of asparagus," Ramsay said when asked about his weight loss. He used to say prior to training he will not let his weight drop under 13 pounds. He followed a strict fitness and diet regimen for the 2013 Ironman triathlon, and he has lost more than 28 pounds in preparing for the event.
Beckham must be a good coach. In just a little over 14 hours, Ramsay was able to surmount the 112-mile cycle ride, 26.2-mile run and 2.4-mile swim.
"Beckman misses competing after his retirement from soccer," a source told Xtri.com. "It really didn't take long for Gordon to talk David into joining the triathlon," the source added.
Apparently, Beckham and Ramsay have been training so hard for the arduous Ironman event and even called their tandem. "Rocky and Apollo" based on Sylvester Stallone's 1976 movie, "Rocky."
"David and Gordon have been waking up early just to train on the beach," the source noted.
The 2014 Ironman World Championships will be held in Kona, Hawaii. Beckham might be missing getting involved in some athletic activities after giving up his soccer career. With Beckham's passion and dedication, he will surely triumph and conquer the upcoming triathlon.
