The cameras haven't even rolled yet for 'Thor 2', but Patty Jenkins already called it a wrap.

Earlier this year, it came as a pleasant surprise when Marvel Studios pegged the budding director to helm the sequel to the 'Thor' franchise.

Jenkins is associated mostly with the 2003 drama 'Monster', which earned lead Charlize Theron an Oscar, and for directing the critically-acclaimed pilot for AMC's 'The Killing'.

Surprises do end though, as sources tell EW that she chose not to direct the superhero flick due to "unspecified creative differences".

However, fans of the hammer hero need not work as this minor setback won't delay the production; it is said to be still in its very early stages, with shooting to commence late Spring next year.

That leaves 'Thor' himself, Chris Hemsworth, plenty of time for a few projects more: his 'Snow White and the Huntsman' is nearing completion, and the Ron Howard-directed Formula 1 racing drama 'Rush' follows after that.

The breakout star also hasn't received a script yet, even though he previously told that he met with Jenkins, who shared her vision or approach to the film last week.

Whatever that vision is, final word will still be up to the management. On another interview with EW, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige leaked that Thor would be taken "literally to other words".

"It will primarily be the journey of that character, of he and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), and how the new dynamic with his father (Odin, played by Anthony Hopkins) is working out, as well as what are the broader stakes for The Nine Worlds," the media mogul adds.

For those who aren't familiar with the comics series' mythology, 'The Nine Worlds' are different planes of existence, which the Earth is a part of. This revelation of the Marvel universe aims to set the stage for future heroes and villains, who are all part of these worlds.

As of now, the studio is scouting for another director who would succeed Kenneth Branagh, who took charge of the first film. We just hope they find one quick, in time for the intended release date of November 15, 2013.

Meanwhile, Thor will still be seen in theaters next year but, as part of 'The Avengers', which will open on May 4, 2013.
