"I was told I had brain damage. I always knew it was an unfair label. Now I have a clearer understanding of what's wrong and I feel relieved and a bit more relaxed about myself," Boyle said in an interview with Observer newspaper.
In 2009, Boyle rose to global celebrity status after participating in the variety TV show, "Britain's Got Talent," and singing a perfect version of "I Dreamed a Dream" from the "Les Miserables."
She said she consulted a specialist because "I thought I had a more serious illness and couldn't function properly." "I think people will treat me better because they will have a much greater understanding of who I am and why I do the things I do. It will not make any difference to my life. Asperger's doesn't define me It's just a condition that I have to live with and work through," she said.
"I would say I have relationship difficulties, communicative difficulties, which lead to a lot of frustration. If people were a bit more patient, that would help," she explained further.
In 2011, her tale of success is has been made into a documentary titled, "Susan Boyle: An Unlikely Superstar," by Osca Humphreys and produced by Firecracker Films for UKnetwork ITV.
Boyle is pretty courageous to disclose her diagnosis and indeed an inspiration to all of us.
