Swiss Helicopter Firm Probed Over 'Schumacher Stolen Medical Records'

A Zurich-based helicopter firm is currently being probed over Michael Schumacher's stolen medical records.

Recently, it was revealed that the Internet protocol (IP) address of the computer used to send the emails allegedly containing Schumacher's medical records was traced to Zurich.

Latest reports cited the location of the computer with the traced IP address came from the offices of a helicopter firm.

"The IP address was located in a helicopter firm in the Zurich area," the prosecutor's office in Grenoble said in a statement. The name of the company has not been disclosed to the general public.

Le Dauphiné Libéré, a Swiss news outlet,reported the helicopter firm was initially preferred to transport Schumacher from Grenoble to Lausanne, where he is currently undergoing a rehabilitation treatment after waking up from a nearly six-month-long coma.

"It turns out that in the days leading up to the transfer of Schumacher in Lausanne, contact had been made particularly with the helicopter company for the hospital transfer to investigate the possibility of an evacuation by air," Le Dauphiné Libéré claimed.

Apparently, a copy of Schumacher's medical records was emailed to a doctor working with the helicopter firm to organize the medical equipment that the German ace racer will need during the transport.

It was cited the option to transport Schumacher via air was later dropped. The Swiss news outlet further made it clear that that doctor who received Schumacher's medical records shouldn't be the one to blame.

"It can equally well be one of his relatives or members of the helicopter company and the doctor would have been a victim of theft of confidential data."

Sabine Kehm, Schumacher's manager and spokesman, confirmed in a statement she made in June that the medical records of the seven-time world champion were stolen and being offered for sale.

She advised the media outlets and the public not to buy Schumacher's medical records stressing they will sanction criminal charges and damages against anyone who will be caught selling or publishing the data.
