Sydney Café Lets Couples Pay For Coffee with a Kiss
Metro St James Cafe: Kiss for Free Coffee
A new coffee shop along Elizabeth Street in Sydney is asking for unusual payment for their coffee. Instead of cash, Metro St. James wants people to kiss. The French style café is promoting love for the whole month of June by asking couples to pay by kissing their partner.
In a promotional video the establishment posted on YouTube, customers who entered the café in pairs were surprised when they were handed their bill. The server gave them an option of to pay for their coffee either with cash or with a kiss.
Those who chose to pay with a kiss must perform the act in front of the server.
“Do you know that instead of paying, you can kiss and have a free coffee?” the server said in the hidden cam-style video.
“It has to be a real kiss. I can see if it’s a fake kiss. Trust me, I’m kind of a specialist,” he continued.
He didn’t elaborate what he meant by a “fake kiss,” however. Judging by the video, perhaps he meant that the couples’ lips should touch.
“At Metro St. James, we don’t want your money, just your kisses!” the staff said at teh end of the video.
The romantic theme promotion is only for the month of June, and is valid only between 9 and 11 a.m. There’s no exact definition of who qualifies for the promo, but Grub Street said that “all couples” are eligible.
The gimmick is met with positive feedbacks from Facebook followers.
“Love the concept and well produced. Great stuff guys!” user Amaury Treguer wrote, while another named Johanne Rossi, said, “Can we come alone and kiss the staff?”
Metro St. James is located at 110 Elizabeth Street in Sydney, and is headed by chef David Bransgrove and Philippe Valet.
