Sydney to host 2016 ARIA Awards
All roads will lead to Sydney on Nov. 23 as Australia’s best musicians will gather at The Star for the 30th ARIA Awards.
According to the Australian Recording Industry Association, the 2016 ARIA Awards will not only feature star-studded performances from local artists but also special appearances from global music icons.
Presented by telecom giant Telstra, the 2016 ARIA Awards will be televised by Network 10 across Australia and by STAR World across the region. Touted as Australia’s grandest music event, the 2016 ARIA Awards will be supported by the NSW Government.
In a statement, ARIA CEO Dan Rosen said 2016 has been an extraordinary year in Australian music industry, especially since Australian artists including Flume, Sia, Troye Sivan, The Avalanches and Keith Urban have featured strongly on charts around the world.
“2016 has delivered an extraordinary year in Australian music - not only have Australian artists achieved success locally, but they are making their mark globally. We look forward to celebrating these accomplishments, along with memorable moments from yesteryear on the ARIA Stage with stellar live performances, unforgettable collaborations and special guest appearances.”
For his part, ARIA Chairman Denis Handlin AM said the 2016 ARIA Awards will be a celebration of the three decades of brilliant performances and incredible artists across all genres of Australian music.
“We are delighted to once again be working with our valued presenting partner Telstra to recognise those artists that have captured the nation’s imagination both in the past and in the present.
“We are also very pleased to continue our partnership with the NSW Government, which is supporting the 30th ARIAs celebrations as well as the exciting schedule of events for ARIA Week 2016.”
The full ARIA Week schedule is yet to be released.
In 1987, Elton John staged the first ARIA Awards at the Sheraton Wentworth Hotel in Sydney. Among the first award recipients were John Farnham, INXS and Crowded House.
Last year, the results of the 2015 ARIA Awards went viral on social media where #ARIA generated over 109 million Twitter impressions globally, according to ARIA.
