A Sydney man, who is suspected to have raped three male students in Indonesia, has been surrendered to Indonesian authorities last week.

Peter Dundas Walbran, 55, taught at the Australian International School in Jakarta, and had been a fugitive since 2007. He was included on Interpol's wanted list after reportedly fleeing Indonesia when the alleged victims surfaced.

In 2007, three male students alleged Walbran had raped them more than once, promising them pocket money and waiving their tuition fees, according to Indonesian police special crimes deputy head Tommy Watiliu. The alleged sex offence occurred in Jakarta as well as Bali and the island of Lombok, where he will face court.

The Indonesian government has requested for his extradition since 2008, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

"Walbran is wanted to face prosecution in Indonesia in relation to child sex offences," a spokesman for the Attorney General's department told SMH.

Asked whether the Sydney man's extradition could be linked to the case of the 14-year-old Aussie boy being held in Bali on drugs charges, the spokesman told SMH, the two cases were not linked in any way.

"Extradition is not a barter or exchange process between countries... Extradition matters are considered on a case-by-case basis and in accordance with the requirements of Australia's treaty with Indonesia and each country's legislation," the spokesman told SMH.
