A video showing a Syrian rebel eating the heart of a government soldier is the cause of outcry from people around the world, ABC reports.

The ghastly video shows how a rebel leader slashes the heart out of a soldier's body and without blinking eat the heart right on. The, the rebel encourages his followers to eat the hearts of Alawites -Syrian president Bashar al Assad's Muslim sect.

The United States condemns what Hamad did but clarifies that his act is that of a lone brutal individual.

US news weekly was able to contact Hamad through Skype. Hamad defends his act by revealing that the soldier he killed showed him videos from his mobile phone. In the said video, the soldier was humiliating a naked woman and her two daughters. Hamad said that he was provoked by what he saw.

Hamad admitted to participating in other acts of mutilating regime forces, including militiamen known as shabiha.

Hamad gave disturbing statements saying that "Hopefully we will slaughter all of them (referring to Alawites). They were the ones who killed our children in BABA AMR and raped our women. We didn't start it, they started it. Our slogan is an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth."

State Department spokesman Patrick Ventrell said in an interview that "We're appalled by this video and we've been very clear that all sides in this conflict must abide by international humanitarian law. Washington has raised this gruesome act in our recent conversations with leaders of the Supreme Military Council, who assured us that they do not support such actions and that this is not representative of the vast majority of the armed position."

Ventrell also told the media that Hamad had been "previously ejected from his unit because of his history of brutality.

UN Human Rights Commissioner Navi Pillay said that the act was "truly atrocious act." Pillay calls out for the UN Security Council to bring the matter to the attention of the International Criminal Court and have all culpable of the war crimes be given the rightful punishment.

Pillay said that "While it is not yet possible to fully authenticate the video, I urge the armed opposition groups in Syria to do everything in their power to halt such gross crimes."

Pillay emphasized that "They must investigate this incident along with other alleged very serious violations by opposition fighters, including acts of torture and a succession of apparent summary executions and extra-judicial killings."

In line with what happened, Russian president Vladimir Putin issues warning against any moves that could further provoke the violence already happening in Syria.

Putin gave the warning following his talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu who also aired out his concern about Russia selling innovated anti-aircraft system to the Syrian Government.

It is to be recalled that Israel launched a sequence of air strikes against Syria last week. Consequently, both parties involved, claims for support from the international community.
