Taco Bell Brings Back Mexican Pizza...Again
Taco Bell announced on Monday that it will bring back its Mexican Pizza on Sept. 15.
The move comes after Taco Bell discontinued the item for three months due to supply issues. The Southern California-based company said it"worked quickly to restock the beloved menu item."
Mexican Pizza generated buzz in May when it returned after two years, due to issues related to the pandemic. Taco Bell cited higher-than-expected demand for cutting the item from the menu after about two weeks.
Celebrities like Doja Cat and Dolly Parton helped push for the return of Mexican Pizza.
“Taco Bell worked diligently to resolve depleted ingredients and supply chain challenges that originally caused longer gaps in the product’s availability," Taco Bell said in a release.

Mexican Pizza launched in 1985 when it was called "Pizzazz Pizza." It consists of crispy tortillas, Mexican sauce, cheese, chopped tomatoes, and either beans or ground beef.
"While we’re currently selling out, for now, we’re working diligently with our restaurants and suppliers to get more back in the hands and stomachs of our biggest fans by this fall," Taco Bell said at the time when it took the Mexican Pizza off its menu.
Taco Bell said that pulling Mexican Pizza was not a stunt and was supposed to come back as a permanent menu item. “While [limited time offerings] are core to Taco Bell’s ability to churn out menu innovation, that wasn’t the plan for the Mexican Pizza,” the company added in the release.
Mexican Pizza sells for about $4.50. Taco Bell offers about seven tacos, 11 burritos, three quesadillas, two nachos, and eight specialty items, which range from about $1.00 to about $5.79.
Taco Bell is a subsidiary of Kentucky-based Yum! Brands, Inc. Yum Brands also owns KFC and Pizza Hut, among other notable chains.
