Former finance minister Lindsay Tanner is set to wear his business suit again but this time as a corporate advisor for Lazard Australia, following his bowing out of politics but not before leaving a major imprint in the previous Labor governments headed by Kevin Rudd and now incumbent Prime Minister Julia Gillard.

Mr Tanner opted not to run for re-election in the last general election and decided instead to resume his private life and purse finance and policy interests in the Australian market.

Only last month, he was appointed as the vice-chancellor' fellow at Victoria University and his new role at Lazard would give him the opportunity to deal with domestic corporate bond market and lend his expertise in devising improvements for the public-private tendering process.

Lazard Australia head of corporate advisor John Wylie expressed joy on Mr Tanner's appointment, stating that the former finance minister would be an additional asset to the business.

Mr Wylie specified that Mr Tanner would "have a general business development brief at Lazard Australia and will also pursue policy initiatives of potential benefit to Australia's economy and financial markets."

He also lauded Mr Tanner's impressive accomplishment in public life, from which he gained the respect of his colleagues, regardless of their political affiliation, that further enhanced his ability to coalesce and implement policy works.

The new Labor government has recently tapped Lazard Australia for advisory role on the $43 billion national broadband network (NBN) program though Lazard already issued an advisory, clarifying that Mr Tanner's appointment was not a consideration for the contract and he will not be involved in the NBN consultation project.
