Russian singer Yulia Volkova, one half of the highly successful duo t.A.T.u, has condemned gay men. The 29-year-old said that he would not accept her son if he turned out to be gay.

Speaking in a Russian TV show, Volkova has made known her stance on homosexuality when she answered the question “Will you condemn your son if he was gay?”

“Yes, I would condemn him. I believe that a real man must be a real man,” she said, according to the translated texts online. “God created man for procreation, it is the nature. Without man there is no family, kids. Man for me is the support, the strength of… I won’t accept a gay son.”

t.A.T.u fans might find it odd that Volkova is against homosexuality since she and Lena Katina gave the impression that they were in a lesbian relationship during the first years of the band.

She has an answer for that, though. Volkova thinks that being a lesbian is fine because apparently, two girls kissing look better than two men kissing.

When the host pointed out that she just told him she wouldn’t mind a lesbian daughter because she believes in freedom, she answered, “I think for men it’s a bad, silly freedom. In our time, there is a very large number of frivolous girls, and a man can be with a large number of these girls. This is freedom for men.

“And a man has no right to be a ‘f--.’ Two girls together – not the same as two men together. It seems to me that lesbians look aesthetically much nicer than two men holding their hands or kissing.”

Volkova cleared that she’s not a homophobe, though, claiming that she has “many gay friends” and being gay is still “a little better” than being a criminal.

“I want to say that I’m not against gays, I just want my son to be a real man. Not a f--. I have many gay friends. I believe that being gay is all still better than murderers, thieves or drug addicts. If you choose out of all this, being gay is a little better than the rest.”

Katina, on the other hand, has distanced herself from Volkova’s anti-gay stance.

“Hey, all! I am seeing some comments lately regarding my position about LGBT and my religion. I can say one thing: God is teaching us to live in love, to be tolerant and not to judge other people! And I do so! Love is love and it is a wonderful feeling! I think everybody should be free to love who they love and be with who they want to spend their life with! Xoxo,” Katina wrote on her Facebook account.

t.A.T.u reached international success with their debut single “All the Things She Said,” which became a massive hit. The song is known for its controversial music video, which sees Volkova and Katina passionately kissing each other. They also usually kissed during live performances of the show.

These had led their fans to believe that the girls were in a relationship, which they never confirmed or denied outright. When Volkova announced her pregnancy a few years later, the girls were accused of faking being in a lesbian relationship.

Russia now enforces anti-gay propaganda law, which might get Volkova and Katina in trouble had they released the song today.
