Taylor Swift was like a “proud mum” to Lorde upon hearing “Yellow Flicker Beat” for the first time. According to the Kiwi singer, Taylor was the first person to hear the “Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1” track, and the U.S. songstress was instantly “obsessed” with it.

Lorde, who was named the curator for the soundtrack for the novel-based dystopian film, has released the first single on Monday. “Yellow Flicker Beat” has received positive reviews, with critics calling it entrancing and alluring among other things.

Fans also expressed how much they like the song. The track is currently sitting at number two on the NZ iTunes chart.

Apart from the fans and the critics, there’s another person who has responded positively to the single. Swift, who has become the 17-year-old Auckland singer’s bestie since she has come to the U.S., has become “obsessed” with it, even showing it to their friends “like a proud mom.”

Swift posted a photo on Instagram of handwritten lines of Lorde’s new single, simply captioning it with “Proud. @lordemusic.”

Lorde then responded with a touching dedication to her friend. She wrote:

“this girl was the first person i played yellow flicker beat to, and she was instantly obsessed with it/would make me play it to our other friends in her kitchen like a proud mom. in return i make her put on my favourite jams from her new record and flail around wildly/smile like a crazy person. it’s the coolest thing in the world having friends who make incredible music AND having them cheering you on when it’s time for your own to be released. So pumped for them to hear 1989. #iheartswift” [sic]

“Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1” stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth, and features Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Julianne Moore, Jeffrey Wright, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland and the late Philip Seymour Hoffman.

It opens in Australian and New Zealand theatres on November 20.
