Taylor Swift released the lyrics of Innocent, the song she performed at the MTV Video Music Awards this year. Swift's performance was preceded by a montage of clips from the last year's award ceremony when Taylor was upstaged by rapper Kanye West. Innocent tackles the incident and much to the public's disappointment, apparently absolves Kanye West of his rude behaviour.

"A lot of you have been asking about the lyrics to "Innocent," so here they are," Swift wrote in her website, posting the lyrics to Innocent. The song will be featured on Taylor Swift's new album Speak Now set to be released on October 25.

How did critics receive Swift's new song about Kanye West?

The New York Times' Jon Caramanica thinks Swift did not really absolve Kanye West with Innocent. Caramanica opined, "Ms. Swift - a victim, but no naïf - performed a new song, 'Innocent,' directed at Mr. West, an extremely savvy insult masquerading as the high road."

But let's leave it for fans of Swift and Kanye West to decide. Here's a part of the Innocent lyrics:

Guess you really did it this time

Left yourself in your war path

Lost your balance on a tight rope

Lost your mind trying to get it back

Wasn't it easier in your lunchbox days

Always a bigger bed to crawl into

Wasn't it beautiful when you believed in everything

And everybody believed in you
