Taylor Swift sings about past romance in Speak Now
Taylor Swift reportedly sings about past boyfriends in her new album Speak Now. Tracks from Swift albums are rumored to deal with men previously romantically linked with the singer such as John Mayer, Joe Jonas and Taylor Lautner.
Reviewers of the much awaited third album had focused on Taylor Swift's previous pronouncement prior to the album's release that Speak Now has become a kind of journal for the actress. This was earlier confirmed by her song Innocent, which she performed in MTV VMA 2010 in reference to Kanye West and his microphone -grabbing antics which victimized Swift in the 2009 award show. The chorus from the eponymous song Dear John, reportedly pertaining to John Mayer, who was rumoured to have dated Swift, goes:
"Dear John/I see it all now that you're gone/Don't you think I was too young/To be messed with/The girl in the dress/Cried the whole way home/I should've known."
"It was wrong/Don't you think nineteen's too young/To be played/By your dark, twisted games/When I loved you so."
It does make one raise an eyebrow since the romance was too brief to dwell in the public imagination. Taken all in all, Speak Now delivers on its promise to be nuanced to the experiences of the nineteen year old singer.
