Teachers Beware: Are Robots about to Take Over Our Education System?
The use of robotics today has begun to spread into many facets of our daily lives. While the most commonly sought-after robots today are still meant for industrial purposes such as carrying, loading, assembling and welding, countries such as South Korea have already begun utilising robots in education, fire-fighting, sewage repairs and manufacturing.
A new project at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology is also using $100 million in grants and over 300 researchers to build and deploy an army of robots to deliver English instruction to South Korean school children.
By 2018, the International Federation of Robotics expects global market demand for robots to reach US$100 billion. Check out this infographic, which explores how robots can be used to aid in our education, and why the U.S. Department of Labor believes that computing related occupations will account for almost 60 percent of all new science, engineering, technology and mathematics jobs by 2018.
