Team Mayweather Wouldn’t Have Started the Poll if They Knew Maidana Will Win Over Khan
Floyd Mayweather always love to be in the headlines. He loves to play games with the media and the public, much like his decision of to ask fans to vote for Amir Khan or Marcos Maidana for his upcoming fight. Some reports suggest that Mayweather and his team wouldn't have really started the poll if they knew Maidana will win over Khan.
Khan has already let the cat out of the bag as far back as December 2013. The British boxer has revealed that he had already signed a contract to fight Mayweather. He stated that he was only waiting for the American to ink the fight contract so that the deal could be finalised.
"I am the one who signed the contract, I've signed my part of the contract, they've not signed theirs," said Khan. The undefeated boxer was quick to refute Khan's claim that a contract has truly been signed.
According to Mayweather's uncle, Jeff, his 36-year-old nephew was considering Khan, but he said that the negative criticisms linked to the British boxer have made Floyd to change his mind.
"Anytime you hear about Floyd fighting Amir Khan, it comes with negative feedback," Jeff told Mlive.com. "When you're the best fighter in the world, you're not used to negative feedback," he added.
Mayweather's next fight poll could be nothing but a taste test. He needs to find out who will likely generate better revenue between the two boxers. Yahoo Sports reported that between Khan and Maidana, Khan is really the only feasible contender even though Mayweather and his team doesn't really fancy the thought that much. Khan will be able to generate more pay-per-view buys than the Argentinean boxer, and he will be able to bring in fair stake of the European market than Maidana.
Boxing fans all over the world have already spoken. Khan got 20,105 votes compared to Maidana's 15,474 votes. The British boxer won the poll, so if Mayweather will really consider the results of the poll, people aren't all concerned when he makes the official announcement because they already know who it is going to be. However, it is not official until it comes from Mayweather, but he seems to be in no hurry and taking his sweet time before making the official announcement about his next fight.
