Referencing your favourite singer's song on Tweeter can get you in trouble, at least that's what a 16-year-old boy has learned. The unnamed teenager is facing criminal charges for setting off a bomb scare after innocently referencing American songstress Pink's "Timebomb" at her packed concert at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne on Sunday night.

"@Pink I'm ready with my Bomb. Time to blow up #RodLaverArena. Bitch," the teen tweeted at the concert.

For those who are unaware of the Grammy-winning artist's songs, the boy's tweet seemed like a terrorist threat. However, he maintained that it was just an innocent allusion to Pink's new song from her chart-topping album.

"It was meant to be about drop the effects, the music, everything - just drop it all," the boy from Warrnambool told the Seven Network.

The police didn't see it that way. They identified and found the boy using his Twitter profile picture from the 12,000-packed crowd waiting for Pink to start her highly acclaimed show.

"They just came up to me and showed a photo and said, 'is this you?' I said yeah, because it was my face, and suddenly they just turned me around and grabbed my hands and forced me out the back," he said.

His father, David King, also told 3AW radio that the tweet was not a threat, but rather an innocent reference, saying, "When he wrote that he didn't have time to put Timebomb, you know."

Mr King's son is now facing criminal charges, including public nuisance, for tweeting.

"The police said to me, 'if it was up to me, I would have booted him in the backside and said go home,'" he told Ross and John. "But they demanded (he) be arrested."

A spokeswoman for the Melbourne and Olympic Park venue said they "can't risk not taking matters like this seriously" because they had an obligation to ensure everyone's safety.

"From our point of view, we have systems in place to monitor social media to ensure the safety and security of the venue, of guests and performers. Our security staff acted to ensure the area was secure and handed the matter over to the police."

The boy has since been released but is expected to be charged on summons.

Meanwhile, it isn't known if Pink, who is in the country as part of her "The Truth About Love" world tour, has been made aware of the incident.

Her last tweet was a picture of wine bottles with the caption: "In good company."
