'Teen Wolf' showrunner slams speculations that Dylan O'Brien is leaving the show
“Teen Wolf” showrunner Jeff Davis denied rumours that Dylan O’Brien is leaving the series after season 5.
Rumours of O’Brien leaving the hit MTV series surfaced after the actor was cast in the movie “Maze Runner: The Death Cure.” According to Teen Wolf News, various reports suggested that O’Brien, who plays Stiles Stilinski in the series, will need to exit “Teen Wolf” given the conflict in filming the show and “Maze Runner.” The movie is scheduled to start filming in Canada between February 29 and May 31 next year, while “Teen Wolf” usually films during late winter until early spring.
However, the rumours of O’Brien’s exit was denied by “Teen Wolf” executive producer Davis, who mentioned that “Maze Runner: The Death Cure’s” filming schedules may still change. Davis told Teen Wolf News, “Despite what you’ve read those dates are not confirmed.”
He also added that the filming schedule for “Teen Wolf” season 6 has yet to be set as well. “We don’t have a start date for production,” he said.
Davis further assured Teen Wolf News that O’Brien won’t be leaving the MTV series anytime soon since the actor is “contracted” to do both projects. The “Teen Wolf” show runner also explained that it would be a challenge for O’Brien, his representatives and the studio to balance the actor’s contractual engagements with “Maze Runner: The Death Cure” and “Teen Wolf” season 6. Davis even described O’Brien’s situation as a “scheduling nightmare.”
“But I think it’s hardest on the actor, actually, who can find themselves doing a lot of flying,” he added.
This won’t be the first time that the “Teen Wolf” production team or a cast member have had to adjust filming schedules to accommodate other projects, stated Teen Wolf News. In season 1, the team had to work around actress Jill Wagner’s “Wipeout” schedule. Davis shared how Wagner, who played Kate Argent in season 1, had to fly back and forth from California where “Wipeout” was being filmed, to Georgia in order to shoot her “Teen Wolf” scenes.
Meanwhile, new shapeshifters has been introduced in season 5B of “Teen Wolf,” where one is based on a Native American lore called Skinwalkers. Arden Cho’s character Kira Yukimura, along with other beloved “Teen Wolf” characters such as Tyler Posey’s Scott McCall, are set to encounter the new shapeshifters in the second half of season 5.
“Teen Wolf” season 5B will premiere in the U.S. on January 5 at 9 p.m.
