India ended day two of the first Test against Australia in Chennai on 182 for three, still 198 runs behind but in a good position thanks to unbeaten half centuries from Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli.

Australia were all out for 380 at lunch, thanks to Ravi Ashwin's seven wicket haul, while Michael Clarke recorded 130 and fell near the end of the innings. James Pattinson then took three wickets, all clean bowled, before the recovery.

Australia started the day on 316 for seven, with Clarke having scored his century off the final ball of the previous day, sitting on 103. He and Peter Siddle, on 13 overnight, continued their partnership and took the score to 361.

Once Clarke departed, caught by Bhuvneshwar Kumar off Ravindra Jadeja, it didn't take long for the two remaining wickets to fall. Ashwin added a seventh scalp to his tally, bagging Nathan Lyon for three, while Harbhajan Singh removed Siddle.

India's innings got off to a disastrous start as Pattinson made his return from an abdominal injury count to the max. He made the usually confident Indian openers quiver, and they stood no chance as he speared the ball into their stumps.

Vijay was sent packing for 10, while Sehwag could only make two before seeing his bails removed. Tendulkar and Cheteshwar Pujara then saw the shine off the ball, and at tea the Little Master was on 38 and his apprentice on 33.

The evening session saw 98 runs added to the score, with Tendulkar continuing his vigil and showing his experience, recording his 3500th Test run against the Aussies. Pujara was not as fortunate though, becoming Pattinson's third bowled scalp, out for 44.

This brought Kohli to the middle, eager to prove his worth after a string of low scores in all formats. The young batsman was on 50 at stumps, making up the majority of the 77-run partnership, while Tendulkar rested on 71.
