The Australian Open, the Grand Slam of Asia-Pacific, will continue to stay with Channel Seven after the TV giant and Tennis Australia agreed to a five-year extension deal on Friday.

Channel Seven will remain the official broadcaster of the Australian Open championships until 2019, extending their relationship to 46 years. Seven West Media Chief Executive Officer Tim Worner said the latest partnership with Tennis Australia is mainly attributed to the network's attitude.

"This is a great partnership for Seven," Worner said in a statement released on Friday. "The Australian Open is an extraordinary event and so much a part of the fabric of our business over so many decades.

"We're so pleased to be able to extend and expand our partnership with tennis over the coming five years," added Worner, whose network could turn a $40 million investment into much larger profit out of the sale it can generate from free-to-air, pay, digital/online, IPTV, HbbTV, mobile and tablet rights in accordance to Tennis Australia's goal of enhancing their multi-platform coverage.

"This agreement fits in very well with our overall strategy of ensuring as much high quality tennis coverage for the Australian public as possible, freely available on whatever device the viewer chooses," said Woods.

Included as a package in the deal is the broadcasting rights to cover the Australian Open build-up tournaments such as AAMI Kooyong Classic, the Apia International, Brisbane International.
