Thierry Henry On TV Punditry, Managerial Aspirations And His Favourite Goal
Thierry Henry has retired from football at the age of 37. He is at peace with himself and thinks that the decision to retire was way easier than moving to FC Barcelona from Arsenal FC, a club which first made him a superstar and then a legend. By winning a lot of trophies at Barcelona he proved that his decision was correct, now he wishes to go back to the drawing board and start afresh to put the building blocks in place for a successful managerial career.
After retirement he has signed a multimillion pounds deal with Sky Sports to offer expert analysis for them. He is known to pause live football matches on television, when watching with his friends, to give his thoughts on them. This assignment will therefore become a natural extension of this exercise. During his playing days he was accused of telephoning journalists and confronting them on the plane when he was criticised by them. It will be interesting to see how far he goes when he takes on the role himself.
This new contract of his also allows him to complete his coaching badges. A player needs to associate himself with a club when doing his coaching badges and there will be no prizes for guessing where Henry will set up base to get his. He is not coy when asked about his aspirations to become the manager of Arsenal. "That would be a dream come true", he says without blinking. In the past Arsene Wenger also saw him come back to Arsenal, either in a coaching, managerial or in a directorial role.
Having scored countless goals and winning all major honours for the teams that he represented it is surprising to hear when he states his favourite goal. It was an FA Cup third round tie against Leeds United in early 2012 when as a 34 year old he returned to Arsenal. Coming off the bench he scored the winner in the 78th minute. He had won them trophies in the past. That day he scored as a fan of the club. It was his way of reciprocating his love for the club who have cast him in bronze to ensure his immortality.
