The former guitarist of seminal Irish band Thin Lizzy, Gary Moore, passed away at 58.

The cause of death is still not confirmed. His body was found in Costa del Sol, Spain where Moore was on holiday.

Thin Lizzy drummer Brian Downey said that his death was a "total shock," while guitarist Scott Gorham said Moore was "a great player and a great guy."

Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1952, Moore began playing the guitar at eight years old. He joined Dublin band Skid Row when he was 16 before joining Thin Lizzy in 1973 and would play for the band on and off on three separate occasions.

Moore also has a successful solo career, and was well regarded by his peers. Thin Lizzy is famous for their 1970s hits Whiskey in the Jar , Jailbreak and The Boys are Back in Town.
