The Hair

Elvis made his hair-style an iconic one. Thousands of people still follow his hair-style. On the other hand, the celebrated black hair was not what he was born with. Elvis had natural brown hair. He used to dye it black.

The First Guitar

When Elvis was a child, he was more interested in getting a rifle as a gift. It was his mother who convinced him otherwise. She asked him to get a guitar instead. He bought the first guitar at the age of 11.

Heartbreak Hotel

Elvis' Heartbreak Hotel was the first major hit that established him as a successful singer. The song was released in the year 1956. The interesting fact about the song is that it had its inspiration from an article which was published in a newspaper. The article was about a suicide in the locality.

Tours Outside U.S.

Elvis had only 5 concerts that were outside his native country. Canada was the only country other than U.S., that saw Elvis live in a concert. All 5 concerts took place in 1957. According to popular belief, the reason behind Elvis' decision of not touring abroad had a lot to with Colonel Tom Parker who was his manager. Parker happened to be an illegal immigrant who was from the Netherlands. If Parker applied for an American passport, he would have been deported.

Elvis' famous song Hound Dog did not seem to be recorded in a smooth manner. Elvis allegedly asked for 31 takes before settling for the final one. His demand for so many retakes must have a lot to do with his fascination for perfection.

Loving You

Elvis acted in 31 movies in his lifetime. "Loving You" was his second movie which featured Elvis' parents. His parents were seen as a part of the audience in the film. After his mother died in 1957, Elvis watched the movie never again.
