Things You Did Not Know About ‘Home Alone’
If you have grown up in the 1990s, it is highly unlikely that you have not watched any of the Home Alone series. In fact, the very first version of the American film which got released in 1990 is the highest-grossing 'human' comedy of all time. The only other comedy films which did better business were animated ones: Shrek 2 (2004), Toy Story 3 (2010), Finding Nemo (2003), Despicable Me 2 (2013), Shrek the Third (2007), Up (2009) and Monsters, Inc. (2001). Here are some of the unknown facts about the film, as referred by News.com.au.
Uncle Frank
Kelsey Grammar was the actor whom the character of the cheap, pompous and rude Uncle Frank was written for. Grammar, on the other hand, decided against doing the role. The character which is seen in the first two instalments of the series was eventually played by Gerry Bamman.
Buzz's girlfriend
It was not a real girl when we see the photo of Buzz's girlfriend. Chris Columbus, the director of the film, believed that he would forever be blamed for labelling a girl 'ugly' only because of the usage of her photo in the film. He thought it would be cruel for the girl. That was why he dressed up the son of the art director and used him in the photo.
The Scream
Daniel Stern actually did not make any yelling sound when he is seen screaming as a tarantula crawls over his face. If he did scream that loud during the shoot, the poor creature would have been scared. The yelling sound was put during the post-production.
Movie in the Movie
Angels with Filthy Souls, the black-and-white movie which Kevin used to scare the bad fellows, was not a real movie at all. The movie was created only to be used in Home Alone.
The Talk-boy
Kevin is seen being obsessed with the 'talk-boy' toy in Home Alone 2. It is a cassette player which could record and replay audio. The toy was, in fact, created by the props department. However, Tiger Electronics had to manufacture the item to be put on sale as there was a huge demand of the toy after the movie got released.
