‘Thinking Out Loud’ enabled Ed Sheeran to help co-writer Amy Wadge during financial crisis [Watch Video]

Musician Ed Sheeran recently revealed the story behind the lyrics of his hit track “Thinking Out Loud.” Sheeran confessed that he helped his childhood friend, Amy Wadge, to pay off her mortgage. Instead of merely giving Wadge some cash, the singer-songwriter chose to write a song with her and that was when they came up with the lyrics of the huge hit “Thinking Out Loud.”

“She was going through financial troubles about a year ago. She drove to my house – my album was nearly done – and she asked if I could put a song from when I was 17 on the deluxe album, so she could get a little bit of money and pay the mortgage and bills and stuff,” Sheeran told The Mirror.

Sheeran said that it was on that visit that the childhood pals wrote “Thinking Out Loud.” The success of this song has helped Wadge to pay off her mortgage and now Sheeran says she will never have to worry about money again. "Thinking Out Loud" has topped numerous charts in various countries including Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Portugal and South Africa.
It was on the top of the UK Singles Chart in November 2014.

Wadge, 40, is a songwriter based in Wales. Aside from Sheeran, she has also collaborated with Shannon Saunders and Lewis Watson. The mother of two occasionally goes on BBC Radio Wales as a presenter.

Wadge and Sheeran worked on numerous tracks together and the "You Need Me, I Don't Need You" singer even named his 2010 album as “Songs I Wrote with Amy.” The album was released independently by Sheeran on April 4, 2010.

Sheeran is known for his generosity and charity work. The artist performed at a concert in Bristol and raised £40,000 (AU $85,922) for a charity that benefits street sex workers. He is also an ambassador for East Anglia's Children's Hospice. Sheeran co-hosted MTV Europe Music Awards in Milan on Sunday.
