A Third of Aussie Workforce to Study to Boost Career in 2012
A significant chunk of the Aussie workforce plans to go back to school this year. Thirty-three per cent intends to return to studying, in the hope that further studying will help them in important job changes for this year, according to a study.
The research, commissioned by SEEK Learning, also found that ambitions extend beyond progression in current roles. Just under a quarter are planning a change of career (23%), while 14 per cent are looking to start their own company within the next five years.
Eight-seven per cent (87%) of Australians workers cite their career success as a strong personal focus. More than a third (38 per cent) attributes this to the need for job satisfaction, which provides a stronger motivational driver than financial gain (34 per cent) or social status (two per cent).
“We spend a large part of our waking hours at work, so it’s important for all of us to be in jobs that make us happy and that we find challenging and rewarding” comments SEEK Learning campaign ambassador, founder of Ghermez Cupcakes and former investment banker, Ghazaleh Lyari.
“Finding what you love to do for a living is something that you might not find till later in life, but once you do find what you are passionate about, the diversity and flexibility in today’s education make the transition so much more achievable. It’s never too late to pursue what you are passionate about. “
