"Thor" to feature Natalie Portman in lead female role
Seems like her Black Swan performance boosts Natalie Portman's career as she makes headlines and receives movie offers since her film premiered in Venice. Recent reports say Portman will play female lead to Marvel Comics film Thor.
Portman will the lead character of Jane Foster in film alongside Anthony Hopkins and Idris Elba with Australian actor Chris Hemsworth on the titular role of Thor. Portman says she only accepted the part because Kenneth Branagh is directing the film.
"It was actually not something I was dying to do. Not Thor in particular, but a big movie," Portman said in an interview withn Total Film.
"When I heard Ken was doing it, I said, 'Wow that is a daring and interesting idea... Then I met Ken and he was someone I was extremely interested to get to spend three months with. It was probably the first, or one of the first times that my expectations were actually exceeded."
Starring in a blockbuster super hero film seems to be the fate of Hollywood stars in a Darren Aronofsky film. Mickey Rourke went on to be cast as villain to Iron Man in the second installment of the superhero franchise, after giving an Oscar-nominated performance in Aronofsky's The Wrestler.
But a lead role in Thor is not the only offer out for Natalie Portman. Warner Bros. is wooing Portman to star in Gravity, the much-hyped film to be directed by Alfonso Cuaron. It was previoulsy reported here that Natalie might replaced Angelina Jolie in Gravity, and the Black Swan star is set to read the script and announce her decision this week.
