Left-hander Matt Thornton has agreed on a two-year extension with Chicago White Sox and a $12 million deal was finalized over the weekend, according to the Major League Baseball team Sunday.

Reuters said that the All-Star reliever has a career-high of eight saves last season pushing him for his first All-Star selection. He has also posted a record of 5-4 with 2.67 ERA.

The 34-year old relief pitcher from Michigan has recorded 12.02 strikeouts per nine innings leading all American League relievers, noted Reuters. The lef-hander has become his franchise’s all-time leader with 100 holds.

The former player from Seattle Mariners is reportedly a strong contender to be the next Bobby Jenks, who according to the Baseball Almanac had a recorded fastest pitch at 102 mph. Jenks is a slider, changeup and a hard, sharp-breaking curveball and is a third all-time in saves by a pitcher in a White Sox uniform.
