TIFF 2014: Five French Movies to Watch at Toronto International Film Festival
The Toronto International Film Festival officially announced the list of films to be shown in its 39th edition on Tuesday, July 22. The list includes some of the most talented young names in French. Here are the five French films to watch at the festival.
1001 Grams (Norway/Germany/France) - Director: Bent Hamert
The movie deals with a lab technician who is obsessed with his work. Ane Dahl Torp plays the character of the recently divorced woman who encounters a series of new experiences after attending a science conference in Paris. The comedy is set to release in France on December 24, 2014.
Alleluia (Belgiam/France) - Director Fabrice Du Welz.
This French drama was a part of the Directors' Fortnight section at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival. Lola Dueñas plays the character of Gloria who runs away along with two children after being manipulated by her. She meets Michel (Laurent Lucas) through a dating Web site and falls in love with the gigolo. The movie is based on the true events of "Lonely Hearts Killers" in the sixties.
Eden (France) - Director: Mia Hansen-Løve
This movie is a part of the the Special Presentations section at the Festival. Félix de Givry, Brady Corbet, Greta Gerwig, Laura Smet and Golshifteh Farahani star in this movie which follows a French DJ who started a revolutionary electronic music trend in the nineties. The movie will have its World Premiere at TIFF 2014.
Force Majeure (Sweden/Norway/Denmark/France) - Director: Ruben Östlund
The phrase "Force majeure" is used in contracts to free both parties in a situation when there are unavoidable circumstances beyond control like riot, war or crime. This movie is about a married couple whose relation goes sour after a rash decision. The movie gained high acclaim at the Cannes festival this year.
The New Girlfriend (France) - Director: François Ozon
The movie deals with a young girl played by Anaïs Demoustier who suddenly discovers a secret about her deceased best friend's husband (played by husband (Romain Duris). François Ozon who directed Jeune & Jolie in 2014 makes this drama which will have its world premiere at the festival.
