Citing unattractive demand currently prevailing on the service route, Tiger Airways has decided to suspend its flights between Darwin and Melbourne for two months though it made clear that no complete pull out for the airline is in the offing.

Tiger said on Friday that the cancellation of its flights on the affected destinations would commence from February 1 up to the last week of March as the airline clarified that passengers who reserved flights for the entire duration have been duly notified by the company.

Vanessa Regan of Tiger Airways blamed weak demand for the cancelation as she reasoned that such practices were now common for all airlines at this time to avert further losses, while also reiterating that Darwin is still in the map of the carrier.

Ms Regan added that other airlines are modifying their schedules too on the same period, suggesting that the specified months were indeed lean season for the local aviation industry that affects not only Tiger Airways but also its competitors.

Tiger gave assurance that passengers affected by the decision would be given full refunds as Ms Regan requested for understanding from its customers.

Tiger Airways clarified that the move was not intentional as it stressed that "we don't go into a market with the intention to pull out and suspend," but the reality is there that the company needs to operate on the most profitable routes possible.

Also, Ms Regan said that Tiger Airways is firm on its intention to sustain and ramp up its services in the region but its flight schedules will have to be based on strong demand and "we have to have full planes to continue to offer such low fares." Tweet
