Tiger Airways is roaring its way back into Australian skies by offering large discounts on one-way tickets for as low as $19.95 and resuming trips between Adelaide and Melbourne on Nov 1.

The budget air carrier will post on Tuesday several promo fares as part of clawing its way back, including 5,000 one-way seats for $19.95. The promo is for travel between Nov 1 and until the middle of 2013, The Advertiser reports.

The offer is timed for the Nov 1 resumption of flights between Adelaide and Melbourne, initially to run two flights both ways daily. Tiger Airways Chief Executive Andrew David said more flights between the two major Australian cities and more trips from Adelaide could be added later.

Following Tiger's agreeing with the South Australian Government to establish its base in Adelaide from Sydney, the air carrier would need to pay back to the state government only $1.4 million out of the $2.25 million state funding it got from SA in 2009 in exchange for re-establishing base in Adelaide.

Tiger, which moved to Sydney in 2011, was asked by the state government to pay back the full amount after the air carrier was grounded in July 2011 by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority.

Its return to Adelaide and the resumption of flights from the city was made possible with Tiger's acquisition of its 10th Airbus 320 which adds 2,520 seats a week into Adelaide.

Mr David disclosed that an 11th jet is on its way but Tiger is cautious with further expansion since it wants to be known for good service despite offering low fares.

Rival Jetstar, which belongs to the Qantas group, announced in June the addition of seats by 13 per cent through Adelaide on its Sydney, Gold Coast and Cairns routes.
