Tildaing: Tilda Swinton's "Sleeping" Art Leads to Birth of New Internet Sensation [PHOTOS]
Tilda Swinton’s Sleeping Installation Art Paves Way to a New Internet Sensation: Tildaing
The Harlem Shake must have enjoined even the Royals but it was a bit embarrassing, admit it. Planking days are over and so is Tebowing. And since koalaing had not made much of an internet buzz, there comes a new one, "Tildaing!"
Inspired by Tilda Swinton installation art at New York City’s MoMA museum, a new photo meme has emerged and is expected to take the wold wide web by storm, even more than it did planking and Tebowing.
Installation art “describes an artistic genre of three-dimensional works that are often site-specific and designed to transform the perception of a space.” Putting that in perspective, Swinton decided to sleep (the three-dimensional work) at the big apple’s MoMA museum (how the museum as a space is transformed into a bed room).
Now here’s the thing. Swinton, a great actress has been whipping up plenty of hysteria following her art work. And it sure is a good one - - very intellectual, genius. What makes it more interesting is the fun that goes with it. Tilda could have created a small corner at the MoMA museum and place on the floor various objects like brushes, blow dryer, pair of scissors and all other materials that will represent her role in Hairdresser. Or she could have displayed all her clothes and anyone else’s and other materials that will give people a look of her longterm advocacy on androgyny.
But she didn’t. She slept in the museum. People loved it and they ontinue to search for its representation online. Tildaing is born! START the SLIDESHOW to check out the photos that have stormed the web.
To do Tildaing is easy. Every Tom, Dick and Harry can do exactly as Swinton. Tildaing is simply “Sleeping in public.” But Tilda’s installation art has paved way for an internet sensation that is a far cry from Tebowing or planking. Tildaing is “more artistic.”
This new phenomenon can be done anywhere. You could take picture of yourself sleeping in a subway, maybe a restaurant or a cafe (for a more dramatic transformation of space), or the bus and at the office. Not only people can be taken picture sleeping in public in Tildaing. Animals will do, too. It will not be a surprise if more photos of cats and dogs doing some Tildaing will storm the web in the coming days.
So what are you waiting for? Sleep like no one is watching and ask your family, friends, colleagues (and even strangers) to take your photo. Then, you would be part of a new phenomenon that not only offers some entertainment and fun but promotes installation art in the process.
