From dogs, cats dolphins and even bears, there are many talented animals that made a difference in the history of movies. Even in the latest film 'The Artist,' a Jack Russell terrier walked the red carpet of the Golden Globes 2012 as a part of the award-winning movie's cast.

Admit it or not, but these animal actors do great in their supporting roles especially in mainstream movies. They are seen often as heroes of the plot or just some provider of instant sweet humorous relief. Such animals add the cherry on top of every ice cream straight on the big screen.

It is the dogs who ran on top of the list and become the majority amongst the animal performers who are trained easily by experts. These dogs can even steal scenes better than human acts sometimes. Did the monkey in the 'Hangover' movie sequel made you laugh? Or did the lead dolphin in 'Free Willy' made you burst into tears? Or maybe Frank the Pug in 'Men in Black' made you fall out of your seat laughing?

Even way back in the classic era, animals have already taken their shot on acting. Remember Lassie, Benji and even Beethoven? They may be three of the most popular dogs on television but before them, there was even Spike, a yellow Labrador for the movie entitled 'Old Yeller' presented by Walt Disney pictures.

These recent years will not be left behind for just last year, there were also a lot of animal performances for award winning films. There's Laika the dog for 'Le Havre' which was running second after Uggie's spot for the Palm Dog Awards and other notable animal species like the horse in 'Lads & Jockeys' plus the polar bear in 'How I Ended This Summer.'
