'Tired' Thug Brutally Attacks A Toddler, Leaving Him Blind With Severe Brain Damage
The 27-year-old thug who allegedly left a five-week-old baby blind with severe brain damage in 2013 is now facing jail after confessing the offence. The kid was allegedly "shook" and "squeezed" by Stephen Sweeney while changing him during a holiday.
At the time of the attack, the doctors feared that the boy wouldn't survive. However, the child was discharged from the hospital and is now registered blind and suffers from cerebal palsy.
The incident happened at the Hunters Quay caravan park in Dunoon where the mother of the baby took him for a holiday. Reportedly, Sweeney took the baby who woke early on the morning of Sept 3, 2013. A moment later, the toddler's mum heard Sweeney screaming from a distance, yelling that the baby is not right.
The toddler was immediately rushed to the Glasgow Royal Hospital for Sick Children, where he was diagnosed with bruising and haemorrhage before shifting him to the intensive care unit at the hospital. The paediatricians confirmed that the kind of injuries that the baby had indicate that the baby has been shaken by the accussed.
After the condition of the child improved, Sweeney confessed in front of the mother and other relatives of the toddler that he had hurt the child.
When asked whether he had lost his mind, Sweeney allegedly said, “I don’t know. I was tired,” reported The Mirror.
Sweeney was detained by the police on Sept 20, 2013. He is currently out on bail, however, will be sentenced to jail later in March 2015.
