Tobey Maguire has decided to settle a lawsuit against him over high-stakes and quite possibly illegal poker games.

The "Spider-Man" actor has agreed to shell out $80,000 in an attempt to straighten out the suit, according to papers filed by Ruderman Capital Partners in U.S. Bankruptcy Court.

In the grievance, the business maintain that its principal, Bradley Ruderman, lost a total of $311,300 to the actor in the course of various poker games; $110,000 of which was lost (or in Maguire's case, won) in a single hand in 2007. According to the plaintiff's line of reasoning, the prize money came from unlawful games and was ill-gotten profit that Maguire was required to give back.

In the past, Maguire had asserted innocence on the grounds that the games weren't illegal, and thus his winnings were legitimate.

Hedge-fund manager Ruderman is at present serving jail time for organization and administration of a Ponzi scheme against his clientele. His company, which is now all but bankrupt, claims that Ruderman came up with the conspiracy in order to settle his alarming poker losses.

As a whole, Ruderman is said to have squandered $5.2 million playing poker though it is yet unclear if the whole sum was taken from the company.

In June of this year, sources told Star magazine that actors Ben Affleck, Matt Damon and Leonardo DiCaprio were also involved and were part of the now-infamous poker ring. The ring is said to have been played in an assortment of upmarket Los Angeles localities including the Four Seasons and Peninsula hotels.

The other actors who have been named have yet to confirm or deny the allegations.
