‘Today’ Host Karl Stefanovic Puts Up His Famous Blue Suit For Auction on eBay
Karl Stefanovic’s now-famous blue suit is up for auction. The “Today” presenter donated the suit that he has worn for a year on air to help combat violence against women.
Over the weekend, Stefanovic, 40, revealed to Fairfax Media that he was frustrated with the criticisms his co-anchor Lisa Wilkinson faces everyday from the press and the viewers who had a lot to say about her fashion choices. So in an experiment that was initially just for a couple of days, he wore the same knock-off Burberry suit for a year. No one had remarked upon it.
“No one has noticed; no one gives a s---,” he said. “But women they wear the wrong colour and they get pulled up. They say the wrong thing and there’s thousands of tweets written about them. Women are judged much more harshly and keenly for what they do, what they say and what they wear.”
His revelation has become worldwide news, with the press and readers praising him for being a champion of feminism. He is retiring the famous suit, though it’s for a good cause.
Supporting White Ribbon, Australia’s only male-led campaign that aims to end men’s violence against women, he has put the suit up for a bid on eBay. The starting bid is $1,000, and bidders have until 11:46 on November 24 to place an offer.
“It’s a little bit stanky – Karl,” a text on the description reads. “Note – may need dry cleaning ASAP.”
Stefanovic explained to Fairfax Media that he feels strongly about White Ribbon Australia’s mission.
“You can eliminate violence in a household in one generation,” he said. “It can start with a father saying to his young boys, ‘It is not acceptable to hit a woman.’”
He continued, “The issue needs to be addressed from the highest levels of society in terms of the law and the way our perpetrators are sentenced. There needs to be greater punishment.
“But it goes down to individual families; to boys having a role model in their life who say, ‘It’s not aceeptable to have violence against any woman.’ It needs to stop and it needs to stop now, and men need to play a role in all of that.”
Bid on the well-used world-famous suit on eBay.
