It seems like Tom Cruise has but a little to celebrate for his 50th birthday this year. Instead of a joyful birthday celebration, it was a very, very sad day for the actor.

As he turns 50 years old, which deserves a grandiose celebration, Tom Cruise has cancelled the original party planned in New York. Instead, the actor quietly returned to his home in Los Angeles after filming in Iceland, to spend a quiet birthday celebration with his children Isabella and Connor.

Tom Cruise, who was caught off guard when Katie Holmes surprisingly filed for divorce was expecting to be flocked with friends and family for his Big Apple celebration. But instead, it turned out as a "somber" day for him.

Katie Holmes shocked everyone when she filed for divorce last Friday. One of the A-list couples in Hollywood has unfortunately gone separate ways.

A source from People magazine revealed details about the original plans for the "Mission Impossible" actor's birthday celebrations.

"The plan was to spend his birthday with Katie and Suri (in New York City)," the source said. "Then they were going to fly to California where he is going to finish Oblivion and spend time there."

According to the publication, Tom is speaking to Suri several times a day amidst the divorce. Connor, openly showed his support to his father by tweeting,
'"#LaFamilia Always. Friends Come And Go, But Family Is Forever" last week.

"They were all together, and one of the reasons he came back to California was that he had to take his family back to LA (in the Burbank area)," and insider told the magazine.

Katie has requested sole legal custody and primary physical custody to their daughter Suri. The air between Tom and Katie seems to be turning sour as the actress reportedly filed an emergency custody and child support hearing in New York.
