Top 5 Reasons why Game of Thrones Deserves an Emmy
Many TV shows are vying for the top honours in the 2013 Emmy awards. "Game of Thrones" is up against shows like "Breaking Bad" and "Madmen" in the drama series segment. Here are the top 5 reasons why it should win an Emmy.
Reason# 1: Shock value
Perhaps "Game of Thrones" offers the biggest twists and shock value, according to the fans. Important characters suddenly die and the story takes a different route from what the viewers expect.
The biggest shocker for fans recently was the "red wedding." "Robert Stark" is killed by his own ally at his own wedding. He was expected to take revenge for the beheading of his father.
Reason# 2: Who is the hero?
Unlike traditional TV show stories, there is no central protagonist or hero in the series. Different characters each lay claim to be called the central protagonist. Characters that appear to be essential die unexpectedly.
This approach of "Game of Thrones" sets it apart from many of the TV shows.
Reason# 3: Who is the villan?
"Game of Thrones" does not subscribe to the traditional hero vs the villan approach. The characters and their families each fight for self preservation. It is hard to point out a main villain.
The brutal acts of murder are shown to be political necessities. There are a few exceptions like the King Joffrey. But he is seen more as a childish psychopath with very little power to do anything substantial in the series.
Reason# 4: Evil is rising!
As the different houses fight for the throne, evil is seen rising beyond "the wall" in the north. The "Game of Thrones" series has only given glimpses of the "White Walkers" who are deep in the north. The slow build-up for the eventual clash has the fans hooked to the series.
Reason# 5: Dragons that need training!
TV shows with dragons are not new. But what is different about "Game of Thrones" is that they are not shown as some magical creatures that obey every command. They are shown to be like normal animals that need training.
The dragons are still very young and are not the humongous beasts that viewers are used to. They do breathe fire however and the relationship between them and their human mother "Daenerys" has made the show fun to watch for the fans.
The Primetime Emmys will be broadcast live from Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, on Sept 22. Will "Game of Thrones" win the best drama series award?
